I am Erny ros V. Manlangit (Amos), a Philippines Fulbright scholar who is currently pursuing my PhD in Art at the Lamar Dodd School of Art, University of Georgia. I finished my Bachelor of Fine Arts, Major in Painting, and Master’s in Education, Major in Special Education from the University of the Philippines (UP). I previously served as an assistant professor for Art History in the UP College of Fine Arts.
I work on the blending of two distinct disciplines - the fine arts and special education, dedicating my professional practice and advocacy building efforts to this field in the past eighteen (18) years. Along the way, I thrived as an elementary teacher, school administrator, expressive arts facilitator, special education consultant, and college instructor in my home country, the Philippines. I presently do volunteer work for different organizations in Athens, Georgia, alongside being a full time doctoral student and graduate/research assistant.
Prior to my scholarship, I participated in fellowships and mobility grants to connect with artist-educators globally. I took part in the British Council’s Connecting Through Cultures (CTC) Professional Mobility Grant UK-South East Asia in 2020, became a presenter at the 13th SAMBHAV Arts Conference 2018 in India, participated as a delegate at the 1st Arts and Disability International Conference (ADIC) last 2018, and became a Fellow in the Arts for Good Cultural Exchange Program 2019 in Singapore. I seek to help grow the inclusive arts practice in the Philippines and South East Asia, an emerging profession and field of study enabling better access to the arts among diverse populations. To aide mainstreaming efforts, I am actively affiliated with the United States' National Art Education Association (NAEA), the International Disability Studies, Arts and Education Network (iDSAE), the International Society for Education through Art (inSEA), the International Expressive Arts Therapy Association (IEATA), Teaching Artists - Asia, Expressive Arts (EXA) Philippines, and the Art Ventures and Advocacy Network (ArtVan).
I also pursue other creative endeavors, and I advocate dance-and-wellness as a certified fitness instructor, explore mandala-making as a meditative visual exercise, and facilitate art journaling sessions to promote mental and emotional well-being.
